A Historic Gem on the Llano Estacado

Silver Falls Park entrance sign

Just east of Crosbyton on U.S. Highway 82, Silver Falls Park offers travelers a welcome break amid the vast West Texas plains. As the largest roadside park in the Lone Star State, this well-kept gem features shaded picnic spots, clean facilities, and easy access to scenic trails along the White River and Blanco Canyon rim. The seasonal falls that give the park its name flow mainly after good rains—heavy irrigation has dried most of the original springs—but the historic stonework, canyon views, and peaceful setting make this a rewarding stop year-round.

History

Silver Falls has been a welcome respite for travelers since the 1800s, long before highways crossed the High Plains. In 1935, the National Youth Administration, working under President Roosevelt's New Deal programs, built the park's sturdy stone facilities, turning a natural stopping point into one of Texas' finest roadside parks.
